Ingalalla Falls

Tiered cascade and rockpools in Second Valley Forest

A family-friendly tiered waterfall and rockpool just a short stroll from the carpark, set in the lush Second Valley Forest Reserve south of Normanville.

A picnic waterfall close to the coast

Ingalalla Falls sits on a small creek inside the Second Valley Forest Reserve, about 10km south of Normanville off Hay Flat Road. From the signposted carpark and picnic ground it is only a 250m walk along an easy trail to reach the lower falls, where water tumbles in tiers into a series of rockpools shaded by sheoak and gum trees. The full return walk is around 750m and is rated Grade 2, making it a popular outing for families with young children.

What you'll find on a visit

The lower pools are the highlight, attracting a small but steady crowd of birdlife, and on warm days the deepest pool is just big enough for a paddle or quick dip. The picnic ground itself has free electric BBQs under shelter, picnic tables and toilets, so it is an easy half-day stop on a Fleurieu drive. Climbing to the upper falls is not recommended as the rocks are steep and slippery, particularly after rain.

When to come

The falls flow strongest in winter and early spring; by late summer the cascade slows to a trickle but the rockpools and shady picnic ground are still pleasant. The reserve is open year-round and there is no entry fee.
